If you are fighting at surface battle don't focuse all power on fighting capital ships. smaller craft can also make a lot of damage when they will be in distance of torpedo attack. Use secondary guns to eliminate this danger.

It is a joy to read the comments on strategic games like these. I haven't played this game yet and already I'm looking forward to start experiencing the thrill of battle such as what this game seems to offer. THIS is what those game stealing thieves called GOG will NEVER be able to offer their audience, the gift of life as experienced in times past and the privilege of getting it for free. After all, a gift with a price is not a gift, and I would ask Abandonware to stop allowing GOG from stealing from their audience, it's not nice.

I have both the originals on disk from back then plus the scenario editor - made some fun scenarios, the AI scripting involved creating order cards for all the task forces and bases that would choose the next card by randomly choosing (you could customize the probabilities) from the card pool based on certain conditions. I never got around to making custom ship/map graphics since the guide for doing that in the manual involved Deluxe Paint / .dbm files which I didn't have back then and neither a converter that worked for my requirements.
@Notus: you could suppress enemy airbases by sustained attack, but they would eventually repair the runways. In the editor you could specify initial repair state for all the bases and overall repair speed for the factions. Generally early war planes are not really up to the task unless you catch the enemy planes on the ground. Naval bombardment is also good at suppressing bases , but only available when scripted in the scenario as is the capability of aircraft to carry bombs that do extra damages to bases.

Cool game. I think I might like the first one better just because of the battles offered, but this is a cool game. I am not actually old enough to have seen this game come out. I just found it by playing around on retro games websites. I didn't actually know Carriers at War had a sequel until I found it by Google Search...

I think I like the Task Force Z mission the best, both from the Japanese and British perspective. Its fun to try to land your invasion as the Japanese and attempt to sink the illusive British fleet. (Watch out for the British air power in Malaya though. Those stinkers will sink your transports.) And as the British, it's fun to try to sink the Japanese fleet. (Although once the Japanese see your ships all the Japanese planes will attack them.)

And a quick question; is there a way to subdue enemy land bases? I find it annoying that the people on land bases can repeatedly bomb you and you can't do anything to stop them.

Can't get this to run. Keeps saying "type CAW" and when I do, it just says "invalid command." I'm not tech savvy. Windows 10 Dell.
