Description of Elite Plus
Elite Plus is an excellent VGA update of the classic Elite, and is now commonly regarded as the best version of Elite. It provides excellent sounds, smooth animation, intensive combat, and all the special missions. Inputs for keyboard, joystick, or mouse are all supported, and can be customized by the player.
Without a doubt this is my most favorite game in this series. Chris Sawyer (of Transport Tycoon fame) also had a hand in coding the game. Ian Bell has recently released the game into the public domain, so go to his site right now for the game and other assorted goodies. Two thumbs up!

It's a good game, a very faithful enhanced remake of Elite, but there's one problem...
Aiming accurately with non-missile weapons is almost impossible, if not, IMPOSSIBLE without slowing down the cycles. But doing so makes the game so choppy it's barely playable.
The main cause of this issue, I think, is how your ship turns and rotates. It's so twitchy that you tend to over-steer your trajectory 9 times out of 10. Such a shame really seeing no other version of Elite is like this, even with DosBox.
Now, I'm not sure if an authentic hardware (An IBM PC) solves this issue, but if you're looking to play classic Elite with an updated graphics, stick with Oolite. It's free and you can actually control your ship.

I'm not sure if this matters, but the manual is for the Atari ST/Amiga version. Not MS-DOS.

My favorite game of all time (well, one of, at least :) )
I spent hours upon hours on it on the C=64, even reached the Dangerous level :)

Your commitment is commendable. I loved Elite myself and have played Oolite (HUGE overhaul of Elite for PC), MSX Elite (emulated) and Elite - The New Kind for PC This one seems to be the best out of the classics, so I'll have a go at it myself.

Hahaha, the manual is 89x the size of the game. Vintage masterpiece versus modern PDF document. I love that.
