Awesome game, this was. Still haven't found better gameplay in a space combat sim.

this game was like 8 floppies, plus another 4 for the expansion...
Good times
I remember their copy protection too,
"type in Word Three of paragraph Four on Page 18 of your manual"
bytemaster added this comment :
I used to play this game for years as a kid, it is one of the best space combat simulators ever.
humorguy added this comment :
Never played this, but heard a lot about it - now's my chance to have a go - but understand it's a hard game and I wonder if modern games have softened me up?! :)

yep, gotta use dosbox! it works just fine. here is instructions-.... 1. download dosbox 2. open it 3. type (exactly what u see here) mount c c:\newgames and push enter. note: you have to install the game to your c drive and then open the folder and u should make a new folder and call it newgames or oldgames and put it in c drive to exstract files to it. then u open the dosbox like i said and type what i put; the mount, and space, then the c, then space then c:\ then the name of the folder that the game files are extracted to like mine, newgames then press enter. now it will say its extracted and you type c: and press enter, then push cd and the name of the game folder inside of newgames(or your folder name) so lets say the x-wing game. ok ill pretend i got the game extracted in the newgames folder thats in the C DRIVE. ok im in dosbox and im starting............mount c c:\newgames(ENTER) c:(ENTER) cd (cd means change disk) so cd (gotta have spaces too) so one more time... cd x-wing (the letters on the dosbox will go capital if entered correctly) it will say X-WING) then u put the play file which is xwing without the - ok? so start to finish.......... mount c c:\newgames(ENTER) c:(ENTER) x-wing....it will say X-WING) and next to it type xwing like that. and your done, the game should be playing like mine and saying star wars with the words going up the screen explaining the story, like the movies xD. hope you got everything, if not write me at royaltyguy@yahoo.com for any questions and ill answer them the best i can and exsplain the best i can in typing, having mic would be best and voice chat so i can get you going with playing games with dosbox, its harder explaining with typing lol, damn i wrote alot.
