Description of Chopper Commando
Here is the video game “Chopper Commando”! Released in 1990 on DOS, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's an action and simulation game, set in an arcade, flight, helicopter and shooter themes.
Chopper Commando is a fun arcade chopper game, simple but polished. You fly missions to destroy specific enemies or safely land at a base on the opposite side of enemy territory. The game is all the more impressive for being the project of a 15 year old learning to program.

I remember getting this off a friend in the mid 1990s & taking ages to work out how to complete all the missions. The missile one seemed impossible but I eventually did it. I remember you would get retired if you lasted enough missions.

For some reason, this is always the game I go to first for a nostalgia trip. I first found it on a BBS when I was very young (perhaps shortly after it was originally written).
Even now, at almost 40, it's the first title I seek out when I make a fresh install of DOSBox.
Such great fun! I only wish I could find a copy of v2.5 (the "registered" version) as I've never seen or played that one.
Also curious what Version 1 looked like and if there's still a copy floating around somewhere.

This game has a few surprising traits. First off, if you swing the mouse very fast, the chopper will practically exceed the speed of light and cause a HUGE explosion when it crashes, taking out nearly the entire screen. If you have auto eject enabled you will eject across several screens. This can be very entertaining. There is also a secret area beyond the first and last screens (one or both not sure). You just have to blast a hole through the mountains.
