Description of Mach 3

Mach 3 is a classic 3D shooter by Loriciel with a typical Michel Winogradoff sampled title tune - very cool. The action is very smooth and fast, and overall it's a very polished CGA game that manages to overcome many hardware limitations. In the PC conversion the tune is played through the PC speaker, so the game should be played in real DOS mode.

Be sure to check out Ultraforce's SoundBlaster-ized replay of all game samples below. They only seem to play on native SoundBlasters, though.

Game caught on, because it had very smooth gameplay and a nice synthesized music and sfx that played through PC speakers without the need for a sound card. As ANDREW pointed out, they used sex appeal to sell the game, and even when you finish areas and go through end portals it'll let out a synthesized female "moan"... just pointless sexualization in the game to push more copies out the door. The game gets monotonous pretty fast, but is much better then the Buck Rogers game that looks similar.

This game first caught my attention back in the 80s with the very busty female character on the manual cover art and the title screen. In fact, I jerked off soo many times to her as a teenager. Alas, she has absolutely zero to do with the game and does not appear anywhere else. False advertizing but hey, this game developed in me a taste for very well-endowed white women.

...This one had an update patch that fixed a couple of bugs that caused crashing on PC-ATs. The problem with the patch was that it forced the CGA mode into the "Cyan-Pink-White" mode, while the original release of the game allowed for the "Snot-Puke-Mucus" mode. Believe or not, some people preferred it that way. One of the cracker groups found a bitflip using a hex editor on the executable - can't recall if it was a COM or EXE - that let you force the SPM CGA mode, but looking back, did us old fucktards *really* tolerate CGA-only games back then???
