Cacoma Knight in Bizyland
SNES - 1992
Description of Cacoma Knight in Bizyland SNES
Cacoma Knight in Bizyland is a Qix-like action-arcade game from Affect/Datam Polystar, better known for their Kendo Rage series. The framing story which incorporates the territory-grabbing gameplay is that an evil witch queen has cast a spell on Bizyland to trap Bizyland's princess, Ophelia, and turn the kingdom into a drab wasteland.
Each level requires the player to avoid enemies while attempting to “reclaim” a portion of the map using the piece of magic chalk King Cacoma gives them. Characters are cute in the colorful cutscenes, but the designs don't translate well as sprites, which are small and lacking in detail.
The play area feels cramped and one would think that a game as short as Cacoma Knight would not need to recycle levels, but large background assets and even an entire screen or two are reused, giving the stages a samey feel.
Superior to the original Qix in many regards, Cacoma Knight is worth a quick play, but unless you're a big fan of Qix-likes, it doesn't have much staying power.
