I played this game so much on the C64, I wore out two save disks.
It is a simplistic, but very, very tough game for the German player. Soviet play is very easy. Without editing, I was never able to capture the Moscow in 1941, and only every managed it once in the new year.
The game is done in seasonal turns, with 4 phases in each for movement/attack. One 'HQ' turn per season, where the effort of each Army group/front can be allocated (assault, defend or retire), fresh divisions and air power doled out to each. Supply becomes tricky, and the russian winter is a killer, especially in the first winter for the Germans when the dreaded purple siberian army units arrive...
I recommend this to anyone that thinks they can defeat any AI opponent. Play as the Germans, and see how well you can do without editing in more divisions and air power.
