Taking Screenshots and Sending Them to Us

Many games on MyAbandonware do not have screenshots. They are essential for users to check out the game before downloading it, as well as helping users find a childhood game by browsing our pages.

Most of the time, we use the screenshots kindly provided by MobyGames, but they don't have screenshots for every game or every platform of a game. We are actively looking for user-contributed screenshots.

If you wish to help us, please take screenshots and send them to us by following these instructions.

Taking screenshots in DOSBox

DOSBox allows you to take screenshot with the combination Ctrl + F5 (hit the keys them at the same time, starting with Ctrl). The screenshots taken will be saved in a particular SnapsFolder depending on your OS:

  • Windows: go to your DOSBox program folder, usually C:\Program Files\DOSBox-7.xx\, double-click on "Screenshots & Recordings" ;
  • Mac: open a new finder window, in the menu click on "Go" then "Go to Folder" (or hit ⇧Shift + ⌘Cmd + G), then enter "~/Library/Preferences/capture/" without quotes.

Screenshots are named after the name of the game directory. Some alternative exists to take screenshots, feel free to use them.

Other Emulators

With ScummVM, use Alt + S to take screenshots, but you have to set additional path in the program options. Mac games emulator (SheepShaver, Basilisk II, Mini vMac) may allow taking screenshots, but it's not well documented.

You can use the Alt + PrintScreen (top of the keyboard, can be labeled Prt Sc) to take a screenshot, but you'll have to paste it into Paint then save it on disk. On Windows 8, you can press the ⊞Win key + PrintScreen to save the screenshot on disk in Computer\Pictures\Screenshots\ folder.

Mac users can use the combination ⌘Cmd + ⇧Shift + 4, release the keys, press Space and click on the DOSBox window. The screenshots are saved on the desktop.
