Description of Super Solvers: Outnumbered!

A fun game in the popular "Super Solvers" series, Outnumbered! was designed for kids ages 7 to 10 to help build basic mathematical skills, such as number recognition, counting, and basic algebraic operations. This time, you, a Super Solver, must save the Shady Glen TV station from Morty's Mischievous plan by tackling word problems and mastering math facts and figures.

Colorful characters and intuitive interface will hold kids' interest for a long time, although the game is a tad too difficult to the target audience. Best played with a parent to help lend reflexes in sticky situations.... if the parent didn't already hoard the game for himself, that is . Another excellent game from The Learning Company, despite high level of difficulty even on the easiest level.

I loved this game as a child, and just played it with my 8 year old son. It warmed my heart when he said, "this is fun!"

I love the Super Solvers games. One time, when I shared this game with a younger cousin who liked math, he told me to take the controls, move the Super Solver and type in numbers while he worked out the math problems himself. He was surprisingly good at it; he could solve the problems in his head without using a calculator. However, on one of the word problems, when he gave me an answer, I told him he had added the numbers correctly, but this was a subtraction problem. Figuring out the right operation to use is what makes word problems so tricky.

This game is set in a local, public access television station. I wonder if those things still exist or if they're a thing of the past. Local TV stations with local programming were really common in the 1960s and 1970s, but weren't nearly as big in 1990 when this game was made, and I don't think they are common now.
