MS-DOS 1.0 was released on August 12th in 1981: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS-DOS#MS-DOS_1.x
Hence it is doubtful that this DOS game would have been made in 1980.
The year 1980 comes presumably from an incorrect interpretation of a timestamp somewhere. Maybe the files of this game had no timestamp recorded on someone's hard disk, in which case it could get the timestamp value cleared to zero on disk, which corresponds to the DOS epoch time at 01-01-1980:
