Has just been delisted on GOG.com.
No word yet if and when it's going to return, maybe under new ownership?

My favorite game from childhood, tied only by Fallout 2.

The dwarf fixing my armor and telling me it's "Right as Rain" was one of those early moments in life where I learned about idioms.

And the fact that you couldn't see much past a few feet ahead always made this game scary, especially when the venomous spiders were about.

Like any good story or horror, this game (and early games like it) had to rely on what you couldn't see (and thus your imagination) to fill the world with wonder... and UUW one did it perfectly.

Still one of my most favourite games of all time. It arrived in the shops at a time that i was unemployed and i (never having played any pc game before except Pong on my tv) played it day and night and it even played a mayor role in my dreams...

I liked this game years ago when I played it in REAL DOS on my 486 comp.
but in dosbox kindof laggy! I even changed my CONF file as I saw suggested
in another post for a dos game ( cpu CYCLES changed from AUTO to MAX)
and this makes a difference but game still has a slight lag to it.
would enjoy it more if it was smoother in terms of gameplay.
have yourself a superhappyfuntime day everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of my favorite games of all time. One of the few RPGs that I ever played start to finish. I still remember when I confronted the Goblin the first time on the bridge and he kicked my arse and knocked me into the water. At the time, I thought, this is awesome. For the year, this was the best first person RPG ever made.

For me a real revelation - and I've played it in 2012 for the first time! UUW 1 has so many features and possibilities, it's relatively "open world" but holds everything together by a storyline that's not so much in dialogues and texts but in the gameworld itself. This game doesn't need any bonds to Ultima, as it stands on its own. You'll feel the thrill of surviving in a mostly hostile underground world, where your food spoils over time and your fighting skills need a lot of practice. You'll even have to learn a simple, but fascinating language. UUW is simply on of the best games of all time for me, and it's way better than the praised second part. Highly recommended!

Hi JAY DEE,
About mouse, I suppose you play in Dosbox it's better to set the sensitivity parameter to 200 or higher.
this solve the problem for me.

Enjoy

I remember when this game first came out. I was an amiga phreak and was glad to see this come out in dos as did LOL and EOTB and Dungeon Masters etc...We played this stuff at work in the Computer Room :). We were the original IT CREWS :D

i have the game file downloaded and sitting on my desktop so my question is can i run it with a program like DOSbox or do i need something special

BigBadGorg 2012-11-25 0 point DOS version

i find myself hard pressed to descide which of the two underworld titles was better. this for its inventive game play or the second to its convoluted story.

A worthy addition to the Ultima series, this is a 3D, first person perspective game similar to Doom.

Banished to the Sygian Abyss for a crime he did not commit, the Avatar (your character) must work to survive in a vast underworld complex filled with monsters and various civilizations made of an original group of colonists who are, like you, trapped within the Abyss. You must barter for resources, maintain alliances, solve puzzles and keep accurate records to solve the game.

The spell system is the only real major weakness of this addition to the series. You cast spells by preparing rune codes that appear on your panel. You may have only one spell prepared at any given time for easy casting, and its not realistically possible to switch during battle. Also, its worth noting that the only player statistic of any real value is the Strength attribute as it affects how much you can carry. The other two have virtually no noticeable influence on the game.
