I want to say it's a masterpiece Russian shoot 'em up game for several reasons:
- The gameplay is very satisfying
- Difficulty curve is quite balanced
- Enemy design is very diverse and definitely alien-looking
- Microsoft Sam's voice everytime you pick up a bonus or take damage
- Controlled spaceship is literally a purple Squidward's face
As for Crusaders of Space: Open Range, I believe it's the second revision of original Crusaders of Space with a lot of changes (like reduced size of spaceship and enemies, altered 4th and 5th level weapon behavior, and Microsoft Sam voice is replaced by a talking pilot in bottom-left cornet).
