Description of Tarmanian Tactics
Tarmanian Tactics is an isometric tactical role-playing game that unfolds in two main segments: navigating the world map and engaging in story-driven conversations between characters, displayed over scenic backdrops. Players progress by moving between map locations, triggering dialogues and, at times, initiating combat—either en route or upon reaching a specific destination.
While exploring the map, players have access to several features: saving or loading their progress, purchasing equipment and items, and restoring their party’s health.
Combat takes place in 3D environments populated by 2D character sprites. Players direct their units by clicking with the mouse, choosing movement paths and targeting enemies. Strategic positioning matters—striking an enemy from behind inflicts greater damage, though foes can exploit the same tactic. The landscape adds another layer of depth, affecting both the damage dealt and received. To aid navigation, especially on complex terrain, players can rotate the battlefield view by 45 degrees with a dedicated button.
The narrative takes place on the continent of Tarman, a land ravaged by an ancient conflict over limitless magical energy. Five millennia after the war, a mysterious desertification begins to spread across the continent—soil turns barren, water sources dry up, and flora and fauna edge toward extinction. In response, the remote village of Denon dispatches its skilled swordsman, Ian Stain, to uncover the cause. As Ian ventures across the land, he uncovers secrets about the forgotten war—and the hidden truth of his own past.
This is the English version of the game, where the text part of the story is still written in Korean (there is no version where the entire game is in English), however the game mechanics are displayed in English.
