when I leave the dungeon, I lose all my treasure, why?

I played this in the early 80s on my Commodore 64 and really got into it. I figured out a few tricks, like standing with a wall between me and a really tough monster. I could sometimes hit the monster through the wall with my sword but the monster couldn't get to me. This emulated version would be fun if I could only figure out how to fight. I also need to use inventory items (i) but can't figure that out either. Some commands I did figure out: e - explore, o - open door, g - get item.

Anyone remember all the commands?

Temple of Apshai first came out in '79. I played it on my TRS-80 when I was in 8th grade. The trilogy was a re-release of the first game, plus two others that were released later. In '79 On the TRS-80 model 1 with cassette player, it took all of 5 minutes to start the innkeeper (character generation), then after you generated a character, it took more than 15 minutes to actually get into the dungeon (the cassette loaded data at 150 baud, and untill you figured out the "fast-forward trick", you had to sequentially play the cassette through all 4 levels before you would load the "dungeonmaster" program. If you had a TRS-80 with the optional disk drive, this process was much shorter - less than 1 minute.
In '79, it was revolutionary. Kids in my school got into D&D in the mid to late 70's, and Temple of Aphsai was basically about as close to playing D&D on a computer with graphics that you could get.
I think by '85 though, games like Rogue were really head and shoulders above Temple of Apshai. It wasn't an "80's game". It was actually a "late 70's game"

Oh wow, the nostalgia. I used to play this on a C64 with a cassette tape drive. 8 year old me would be very impressed at the load time!

Too tempting too cheat and the game isn't that great. Even for an 80s game. I wouldn't recommend wasting time on it.
