Part of the point of the game is illustrating the expectations we have when we go into video games. Even after the game says that our actions have consequences, a lot of players (including me) will shoot the guy without thinking, partly because the presentation leads us to think that's what we're supposed to do, and partly because we think we can restart since most video games let you do that.

I guess the point of the game is to tell you that executing someone is bad? Once you execute the guy then you can't do anything else with the game.
