As soon as I got the issue of Commodore Format with the demo of Slicks on the cover tape, I really couldn't wait to try it. The graphics weren't bad and I loved how it played. Within a couple of weeks, I just had to buy it as soon as I saw it on the high street. This was one of the very last games I bought on the C64, in fact, it may have been the very last C64 game I had ever bought as only a few months after this was included on the cover tape, I had got a Mega Drive. For this reason, I have a lot of fond memories of nostalgia with Slicks, it was a definitive end of an era for me, having being a C64 owner for a decade.
The game played well, bit of a challenge, but once you were used to the track layout, it was relatively easy to progress and challenge for the better cars. This is one of the best over head racers on the 8-bits, and whenever I any releases now, I use Slicks as the bench mark. The daft thing is, I paid £2.99 for this 30 years ago and a few weeks ago I paid 83p for Ultimate Racing 2D on the Xbox but would I pay 83p now for Slicks. Nah!
