Oh my gosh, I had forgotten about this. Game developers, take note. The programmer is not keeping track of any objects in the game.
Instead the objects are part of the map and move randomly. That is why an object off the screen does not follow you.
An interesting idea and easy way to manage dozens of monsters without keeping track of each one.
