The game doesn't work on modern systems, since it was designed for Windows 95 & 98 systems and use DirectX 5. You can try to run it with some of wrappers that adapts old DirectX to newer systems, here's the list of wrappers. Also, it is recommended to run the game in compatibility mode with Windows 98. And the game may have issues when you run it with dgVoodoo, check this thread for details
Fixed exe-files was made by users of old-games.ru forum, it removes disc check so the game can be launched without the disc. And probably, with that fix the game should work on Windows XP too. Check this and this threads for more details. The fix showed few generic warnings on VirusTotal scan report, it is safe to use
Setup by Whitebob should be compatible with modern systems, it uses DxWrapper to make the game work, check this page for details. However, it still may crash at random moments, because the game works very unstable on modern systems
So far the best way to play the game on modern systems is to run it on Virtual Machine with Windows 95 or 98. For example, it worked good on PCem with Windows 98
