Description of Shadowgate

Shadowgate is a typical fantasy adventure game with a typical defeat-an-evil plot: you have been sent to Castle Shadowgate prevent the resurrection of an evil monster (called the Behemoth). Although most puzzles are logical, Shadowgate is most memorable for the ridiculous amount of time you will die -- just picking up a book or walking into a certain room will kill you instantly. Torch management is also a pain because there's a limited number of them lying around.

Definitely NOT the game for the easily frustrated! Too bad the sequel Beyond Shadowgate was released only on the TurboGrafx 16 system.

After a long hiatus, ICOM is finally back as Ininite Ventures, and has updated the game to Windows 95 version! Go buy it today from Shadowgate website!

Lakmir was a fool to send a child to do something that even the Circle of Twelve couldn't - contain my growing power.

As previous comments mentioned, the "Buy at GOG" link goes to the remake. However, the original Macintosh and Apple IIgs versions are packaged together and sold on Steam under the title "Shadowgate: MacVenture Series" which can be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/343800/Shadowgate_MacVenture_Series/

@RAVEN

GOG simply doesn't keep those games alive, indeed it's killing them softly.

They don't sell this version of the game on GOG. They sell the fancy new remake that came out in 2014 by Zojoi.

isn't it very funny that this game is for sale through our lovely (!) gog, while other ICOM legends are for free.

is ruining fan collections the main point?

Has issues in FreeDos. Seems to run fine in DrDos though. Used to love this game on the mac.

@gamelol2: Because this is a site for DOS games

My memories of shadowgate are from the NES version. Definitely a classic.

how come tere isn't a shadowgate for windows (not dos) on this website?

I remember first playing this on GameBoy Color in the '90s. Apparently the later release remained true to the original programming - torch-related frustration and multiple deaths per minute of gameplay are certainly my strongest memories of this game.
