Admin, to clarify: you're saying the ATRAPS named file contained with the ISO cannot be the Trojan as the disk image pulled was made before the Trojan was?

@Tasch stop with this non-sense, this Trojan appeared in 2014, dig into the relations of the VT report.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD. File is infected with a particularly nasty trojan rootkit (called ATRAPS.Gen). Please take this down until there is a verifiably safe and uninfected version of the software.

Normally I'd assume only one flag meant a false positive, but I can't chance it with a rootkit this severe.

However, does anyone know any ways to get the game to run with intro and cutscenes on a modern Windows 10 OS WITHOUT having to download QuickTime or DirectX? I genuinely worry that security may be compromised as a result, unless there's a more viable alternative (i.e. VLC, RealPlayer, etc.)

Downloaded this and was immediately deleted by my anti-virus as it contained a virus labeled "TR/ATRAPS.Gen" and upon inquiring more information via Google by typing exactly that in. Tutorials popped up giving a how to remove the TR/ATRAPS.Gen virus thus confirming it is indeed malware.
I would love to play this game again after 10-15 years. Please remove the virus from the folder/game/download.

It looks like you can click Save As and then save your game to any location you choose except "D:\Data" where it defaults you to save to. If that makes sense. I was able to save my game and click Load Game from the main menu. It allowed me to select my save file which was in the same folder I left it in. It just won't let you save files to the optical disk drive is all.

To save I clicked save as, and wrote the save name in place of the *
Make sure and keep the .am3 and it should save when reopening the game.

...so here's my drift:
I got the game run just fine, by mounting the ISO, going to "DATA" folder, and clicking the .exe file "AMAZON3". Yeah, yeah, the intro and guide cutscenes don't show up, but I'm not picky as long as I don't get a virus/compromised security from installing QuickTime 3.0 or DirectX 5.
::HOWEVER::
When trying to save a game file as *.am3, an error message pops up saying "You can't save to D:\Data, please choose another location." Any other option lists it as "Bad File", so there's no progress saved. Has anyone else had this issue? If not, how did you work around it? Please help!

Tried playing this when I was about 11 or so and could never get very far because it NEVER TOLD ME HOW TO DO ANYTHING so I ended up dying of scurvy. Didn't know how to eat anything, get out of the boat, go foraging, go fishing, anything. Anyway, gonna give it a shot 20 years later to see if I can figure it out.

I played this with my only older sibling so often! I searched for it for a long time, 'cause I could never remember much of the game other than fishing up stuff, identifying it, a water salesman I think, and a few other things. I'm so stoked to see this game again.

I loved this game as a kid, even though I never beat it. Part of why I liked it so much is that I had a crush on Rosa, one of the guides, so I'd always pick her and spend a lot of time talking with her.

Hi,
So I got the game to run, but it's running in a very small window and it's hard to really see what I'm doing. I'm feeling so nostalgic about this and I'd really appreciate if anyone had any advice or suggestions on how to troubleshoot or fix this.

Ran pretty well on my Windows 8, once I opened the game through the Data file. The game does frequently crash, so save often. The only issues I noticed were that the movie clips did not play (such as the game opening and the transition from paddling to visiting a village), and my guide's face could not render.
You can save your game on the D drive, but NOT in the E drive.

I recommend what that other guy was saying. I downloaded it and mounted it and it's in my E: drive on Windows 10. in your E drive you click on the file labelled DATA and in there is an application labelled AMAZON3. Click that to run the program. Make sure you save often though bc it crashed on me halfway through the game and make sure you give ipecac root to that annoying character that takes your stuff and wont trade with you or he wont let u go.

THIS IS FOR WINDOWS. They labeled it wrong. DOWNLOAD IT IF YOU WANT TO PLAY ON WINDOWS.
Unzip it.
DON'T INSTALL IT.
Mount the ISO, and on the disc go to the data folder, and double click amazon3.exe, NOW YOU'RE PLAYING IT ON WINDOWS!
To make it fullscreen, right click that exe and under compatibility, make it play at 640x480.

Downloaded this on my PC because of comments saying this didn't work on Mac, only Windows. Thing is, it only downloaded two image files, no application or .exe files. Is there another link for PC?

Warning: THIS IS NOT A MAC VERSION!
This is an ISO of the Windows version CD, it was only compressed under Mac OS X system, so Mac's metadata got added, the disc image is Windows.

This works great...on my Windows 10 laptop! Did not work on my Mac at all. I had the same problem as the other reviewers--wound up with basically an empty folder after download. That actually is compatible with my childhood memories, as I never had a Mac-compatible Amazon Trail game. I'm pretty sure this download is incorrectly labeled. Sorry, Mac-only folks!

Well, my problem is similar to another gentleman's. It is showing a CD but when I click on it the file is empty. "Get info" says there is 605 megabytes on it, but I can't run it or access it. What do I do?

When I try to run the game on OS 9 through SheepShaver, I get a message that says "The document could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found."
