How to play Frontline: Fields of Thunder Windows
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, it works fine. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Notes for details
To install the game, simply mount the ISO image or extract it with WinRAR or other file archiver, and run Setup.exe. English and Spanish versions of the game are DRM-Free, simply install & play
Notes:
- If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
- It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- If the game doesn't work - run it in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (Windows 98, 2000, XP, etc.) and as administrator. To do that right-click on exe-file or desktop shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility
- Be careful, Russian version of the game is protected by StarForce DRM that can break your system! That DRM can ruin your computer, especially if you use 32-bit variant of Windows OS! Make sure to use NoCD BEFORE the first launch of the game, to avoid the installation of StarForce DRM drivers
- Russian version of the game was released as "Великие битвы: Курская дуга" (Great Battles: Battle of the Kursk Salient), as a part of "Великие битвы" (Great Battles) series. Russian version also had an official expansion called "Курская битва. Забытые сражения" (Battle of the Kursk. Forgotten Battles), that expansion is available only for Russian version, it must be installed on top of the base game. For more details about that expansion and what it includes - check this page
- There could be a problem with fonts, especially in the Russian version, when the in-game menu and texts become invisible. The only solution to is to run the game again several times, usually at 2~5 restarts the text becomes visible. Also, make sure to run the game in compatibility mode with old Windows, preferably Windows XP SP2
