How to play Darkest of Days Windows
Install & play guide (for ISO version):
- Before installing the game - download and install Nvidia PhysX Legacy Drivers, even if you have AMD videocard. The game uses PhysX engine and will not work without installed PhysX
- Mount the .ISO disc image. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 102% or Daemon Tools Lite
- As alternative - you can extract files from .ISO image if you have installed WinRAR. Right click on .ISO file -> Extract files. After that just launch the installation with Setup.exe
- Install the game
- Install the patches
- Optionally install NoDVD
- Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't run - open the directory with the game and find darkestofdays.exe. Right click on darkestofdays.exe - Properties - Compatibility - Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7"
Repack installs automatically, all patches and PhysX installer are included.
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, works fine. The game supports widescreen and ultra-widescreen resolutions

Apparently it's just not possible to get this to work on a newer machine with a newer AMD video card. Damn! I bought this game a while ago when it came out but my PC was too crappy to play it. Now that I live in the future I thought I'd finally give it a shot!

If you have a newer AMD video card, it probably won't run on your system. Black screen whenever you try to load a mission. The problem is AMD's shitty OpenGL support in their Windows drivers and NOT PhysX (assuming you installed the included redist).
There's a handful of OpenGL wrappers out there, however I could only get Mesa3D to work. And that one translates to software rendering which is of course way to slow for Darkest of Days unfortunately!

For everyone having a black screen when playing the game (because you have a AMD card), that easy:
You only need to change the graphic card you choose for the game ( you can choose your CPU )
-setting/display/graphic setting
And then change to low performance and this should work well.

Works great on Win 10 (played the repack version). Also surprinsingly good. This game is infamous for getting bad scores, like a 5 from Gamespot and IGN, and a 2 from Destructoid. I don't know what those people were smoking, but this is, at worst, a 7. It's very fun, has large levels, some cool set pieces, a few interesting mechanics (active reload, non-lethal grenades to avoid killing certain people in history), some interesting futuristic weapons, fun shooting, a decent length and sufficient variety. It's a shame they didn't include a multiplayer mode, as battling with your chums on historical maps, with historical or futuristic weapons (or both) would have been a lot of fun, but this itself is not enough to fault the game.
If you are a FPS fan, this game deserves a try.

yeah I was actually waiting for it to go on sale... then I was pretty bummed out to see it suddenly disappear
apparently it was delisted because the publisher closed doors and there was no company left to manage the sales, yet somehow the developers are still around under a different name, but doing some sort of 3D modeling software or something like that

I set the game to windowed mode and, for some reason, the mouse is completely unresponsive in game.
