Plugging a controller actually speeds up the game very well. Do not change the settings and install in the default folder using the setup app, otherwise controller will make menu smooth but the game will still be around 15 fps instead of 5. doing both creates a perfectly playable game for some reason

For anyone running the game and getting 5 fps, one fix I found is having a controller connected to windows. Just having one plugged in lets the game run at 60 fps (Unsure why given that the game doesn't use a controller).

Sorry, my system was also old. I bought in 2013. It was working good in my system, I thought it will also run on others. I hope I could help you to run the game properly.
