Is there way to load a game without waiting 5 minutes for the hole intro to play at the beginning?

Wow! I played this game many years ago and it was amazing. My favourite SH game. And really good for a graphic adventure.
The story is complex and interesting, the atmosphere and graphs are incredible, you feel like inside London back in the day. Wonderful game. Maybe too Long. I got stuck in the past in a few points, specially near the end of the game. 9/10, totally recommended.

For everyone who loves this, sorry to spoil, but the original masterpiece was "The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Serrated Scalpel" from 1992 by Mythos Software. This is the "rendered, realistic graphics"-successor.
In the Serrated Scalpel the graphic designer Scott Mavor did one of the athmospheric VGA games in gaming history, the „The Mavor Glow“ was one of his specialities. Every screen has a light-center and mostly dark colors. Not like here, the persons are hand drawn and fit perfectly into the scene. All features of this game it already had, like the chemistry. The 3DO version of Serrated Scalpel also had this awful FMV Sequences.

I really believe that you enjoyed this game, but you have to play the first game of this series. It will blow you away.

Just playing this gem. Thx for having it! And thx for the .bmp hint!
But: I'm stuck, seem to have myself softlocked. I missed the chance to buy the newspaper, and now I cant go to Daily Telegraph, and I cant buy the newspaper anymore. Is there any trick? Or do I have to get back to an old save and do the annoying billiards/dart number and violin-snob stuff again? :(

For people having issues with INSTALL.BMP, make all the extracted files are not marked read-only.

I remember playing this a long time ago. Sad that the classic 'Holmes' has been culturally replaced by whole collection of annoying, arrogant, all-knowing, "I can smell numbers" autistic savants whose brains are almost as big as their ego.

7/10 ONLY because of the darts mini game, otherwise woulda been a 9/10 game. Darts mini game most annoying and unnecessarily difficult part that will just piss you off and make you drop the game

My favourite game of all time. Atmospheric and detailed in the extreme. Huge production values with amazing depth. I've played it through twice, once on my PC in the late 90s and through an emulator about 10 years ago. Quite superb and thoroughly recommended to fans of the genre.

Dami,

Replace the contents of HOLMES2.BAT (the one in the game folder) with the following:

@echo off
Set DOS4GVM=DELETESWAP MAXMEM#8192 SWAPNAME#.\MYTHOS.SWP
HOLMES2 .\MYTHOS.CFG %1 %2 %3

Have fixed the intstall.bmp error.

rename the "INSTALL.BMP" file something else
open in paint
save as "INSTALL.BMP" in 256 colors
try to run the installer again

+1 DAMI

hi guys. I can't get this to work. It keems saying that the holmes2.bat file has an error. The steps I take are:
1: extract the file and then copy and paste the contents of the Holmes2 directory into de main directory.
2: run Dosbox and mount the game's directory into D:,
3: run installer, which works, but then suddenly stops and shows that message, saying that there was an error with the holmes2.bat file.
Can someone please tell me the steps you're using? thanks a lot.

Still my favourite of SH-games. Why? Because it captures not only the spirit of SH perfectly (even allowing the player to do chemical experiments) but also the spirit of the whole Victorian era: Every tiny thing in this world is commented if you look at it, it's full of cultural and historical references and informations and makes you feel as if you were there, in London on the brink of the century. The story itself is complex, interesting and will guide you through SH's London, from residences of nobles to the miserable existence of the workers in East End, from the cosy Baker Street to the misty shores of the River Thames. And this game is long, takes quite some time to be solved. One minor thing is that sometimes it's easy to miss dialogues that are critical for the progression. There are no dead-ends though. Just be sure to check all things on the screen carefully as it can open new dialogues. Graphically this game is a beauty even today - it's true that the movements of the protagonists and npcs are a bit wonky, but the backgrounds and environments are beautiful and bring you right back in Victorian times. The music is great too, with a catchy theme music and many variations to it. It sounds good with Sound Blaster Pro-setting, but it really shines if played with MT32-setting or - even better - with a suitable Soundfont (I recommend SGM-V2.01). The english voice acting is just brillant and fits perfectly. Overall a fantastic game with an unsurpassed atmosphere and SH-feeling!
