Description of Shiloh: Grant's Trial in the West
"SSI's first rendition of Civil War, The battle, it was a true "beer-and-pretzels" type of game. Easy to learn and play, it was marred by marginal graphics and ahistoric results. The "edge of the world" map syndrome ruled here as it was the preferred method to fix and destroy the enemy." [excerpt from M. Evan Brooks' Homepage]
It was also a more accurate rendition of the Battle of Shiloh than the 1981 game SSI first released on Apple II.

Shiloh is a great strategy game. It's a historically accurate simulation of the Battle of Shiloh. The confederates almost took the first day with an early moring sneak attack, but by evening the Union had reinforced with a second army. Units are in regiments, and every unit is calculated down to the man and gun. Small details like muskets for some confederate units to a Union Regiment with Henry Repeaters give the game a realistic feel even while the graphis are basic. Great two player game and the brilliant AI will challenge your command skills. Highly addictive game.
