Description of Nobunaga's Ambition
Essentially Romance of The Three Kingdoms with Japan as a backdrop, the game chronicles the achievements of Oda Nobunaga, a shrewd daimyo who came close to the ultimate title of shogun in one of the most properous and tumultous periods in Japanese history. Play as Nobunaga himself or one of his rivals for a greater challenge (because they have inferior starting statistics).
This is not as difficult as RTK games because there are fewer territories to conquer, but still very engrossing due to its emphasis on RPG-style character traits and "realistic" personnel management (e.g. you can entice the enemies' generals to defect with gifts, recruit free warriors, search for new talent, etc).
Definitely a must play for any KOEI fan and an interesting historical wargame for anyone interested in Japanese history, or how crucial your generals' loyalty is in the thick of war.

The RoTK series is a great masterpiece that preserve its charm even today's standarts.
the real source of inspiration of paradox games, especially the crusader kings.
but still has preferable features over those modern titles.

Hello all and thanks for all the great old games you upload here. Forgive the newbie question, but I manage to start the game under dosbox, but once my turn comes up, I can't seem to input any command. Can someone point out to me how I can play this game? Thanks in advance.

This is the game I wasted a large portion of the late 1980s on :) OK, wasted is the wrong word, but... yeah.

Oops, looks like Sogo was #40. But, he was the one I used. Also being on an island helped keep the attackers down to just a couple. Kono would attack on the 1st turn every time.

On SNES, I beat this game on the hardest level using SOGO #42. He starts the game at age 6 and using game mechanics in battles, I could get an attacking armies whole army if I was able to get their Daimyo to retreat from a battle. At age 6, I could outlast some of the older Daimyos and buy their land in the middle game. Assassination against weaker ones worked as well.
I don't know if I could reproduce those results now, but it was fun at the time.
