Played this game over a decade ago in school and i always tried to remember what it was. Luckily for me that waterwheel level was stuck in my head so was able to find it after a decade of trying to remember the game. Honestly the nostalgia is great times were simpler

The first Zoombinis game was perfect standing alone. I felt that the second Zoombinis was an unnecessary sequel. But this one, the third Zoombinis game, is an excellent game in its own right.

Story-wise, the game goes back to its original roots. The Zoombinis abandoned the island when the Bloats took it over, and so did the other animals who were capable of leaving. But the weasel-like Zerbles couldn't leave the island, so now that the Bloats are gone, the Zoombinis decide to return to help the Zerbles and make the island a better place to live.

This game is a lot shorter and more forgiving than its predecessors. The first game had twelve puzzles and the second had nine puzzles, but this one has only seven. You only have to bring 240 "tokens" to the end, and with 12 tokens per puzzle, you only have to play each puzzle a minimum of 20 times to win. (However, I admit that even though I've mastered the puzzles on all three levels, even I'm not perfect). If tokens are left behind, they don't get pushed back to the beginning, but are allowed to stay where they are. Most of the puzzles will allow you to play and advance even if you don't have a full set of 12 at that location, with the greenhouse and the pen as exceptions because those puzzles don't work as well with fewer pieces. However, at the end of the game when you have fewer than 12 tokens left, the game will make an exception to push the stragglers through. This game also gives the option to reduce the difficulty level of a puzzle, which previous Zoombini games didn't allow. If the difficulty advances to a point where it gets too hard (or I just get lazy at the end and want to speed through the more time-consuming puzzles that I don't enjoy), you can make the game easier.

The game begins with a traditional Zoombini generator, but frankly, it's irrelevant. Previous games had limits on how many Zoombinis with similar traits you could generate and take with you. This game allows you to make as many identical Zoombinis as you want, but that's because in this game, Zoombinis are not the things you're supposed to be sorting. You'll sort flowers, seedlings, berries and Zerbles, but not Zoombinis. The puzzle curriculum is also creative; while the greenhouse puzzle is similar to Titanic Tattooed Toads, and the garden puzzle is a simplified version of Hotel Dimensia, all the other puzzles in the game are new and intended to teach scientific concepts. The observatory puzzle is a bit simplified; the sun rises and sets at 6:00 every day, and while a lunar month is actually 29.5 days, the Zoombini lunar calendar has only 28 days to make it easier to count weeks. Pairing Zerbles in the barn relies on understanding how a Punnett Square works, but traits are arranged in a rock-paper-scissors (or foot-wheel-ski/tail-dish-pinwheel) relationship. I don't know exactly if the gear puzzle teaches things about gear ratios; I always solve it by trial and observation.

I enjoy this game. I hope you'll enjoy it, too.
