This game is definitely not a 4.8/5. Might and Magic 9 production immediately began after the release of MM 8. 3DO was going out of business and had laid off most of its staff, leaving behind few developers and employees to produce it. Many corners were cut to push out the release of the game and only 1 patch was released by 3D0 to fix some of its issues. The game constantly crashed even after the patch and 3DO abandoned the support of their game due to lack of funds and manpower. Jon Van Canegham had limited involvement in the games production and stated in 2004 that he never would released the game in its current state which was " pre alpha " at its best. The game has a community patch available for it nowadays which eliminated most of the games crashes but at best the game still suffers crashes to the desktop and even characters clipping through walls or the floor to fall to their deaths. If you're interested, a streamer named Sinitar on YouTube has a let's play of MM9 that shows the game crashing multiple times with characters clipping through the floor. It's in a completable state now and is finishable.GOG rates the game a 3/5 and Gamespot rates it 6.2/10. The unofficial V 1.3 patch is called the Erathian Liberation Front fixes over 80 bugs present in the game and is included in the GOG version. Buyer beware!
