Description of Moon Bugs

Yet another game by Windmill Software "inspired" by arcade originals, Moon Bugs is a blatant clone of Galaxian that unfortunately adds little to the tried-and-true "shoot all aliens in sight" concept.

Your goal is to defend earth against insect invaders who descend from the top of the screen. That's pretty much it-and there is no variety in gameplay to make things more interesting, either. It's just shoot, shoot, and shoot until you get bored of insects that are several pixels wide.

Quite a disappointment compared to similar games such as Cosmic Crusader or even Galaxian itself. Windmill's later games, most notably Digger, are much better at enhancing the original concepts. Even the 4-color CGA graphics of Cosmic Crusader is more detailed than EGA in this game.

My advice: try it out, and go play Galaxian instead :)

It's funny to see a negative review of this game. I played this as an eight-year-old and thought it was one of the best things ever. I tried finding it about 10 years ago but couldn't remember the name. I still think it's great, whatever you finicky reviewers say.

It's F1 key to fire, same as with Floppy Frenzy and some of those other early games (probably because of keyboard layout reasons...)

Also, to run game in fullscreen try setting machine type to tandy (dosbox -machine tandy).

And you need to throttle cycles down a lot. On my machine the ideal speed is about 300 cycles. You can use MIPS.COM (not included in zip, just google it) to try and figure out approximate cycles equivalent to a 4.7 MHz IBM/PC on your particular hardware, but it will never be 100% exact since dosbox isn't a cycle exact emulator anyway.
