Plays along the lines of DROD (Deadly Rooms of Death) where you move a step and enemies move a step. ZZT was popular back in the day b/c it got passed around as shareware on BBS', and you could buy the full version to unlock more content. The game had an editor to make your own puzzles, and it could use simple scripting to make things put up messages when bumped into, or flip a switch and have it open a door some place else. The ASCII graphics made you go into it thinking it was just another simple game, but it actually had a lot of depth, puzzle-solving, entertainment and humor.

Remember playing the shareware version of this game when I was younger. From what I remember, this is a "turn-based" (in the sense you make a move, and the enemies all move at the same time) game played with very colorful ascii symbols. I can't remember much about it, but that something hooked me on for hours when I was small. Not everyone's cup of tea, but for those who can get by the ascii symbols, this was an enjoyable game.
