Description of Gary Grigsby's War in Russia

M.Evan. Brooks: "An operational/strategic simulation of the entire Eastern Front (1941-1945), this game was easily learned and played; sheer size and certain defects in the artificial intelligence presented the difficulty."

Despite AI quirks, however, the game is undoubtedly Gary Grigsby's masterpiece, and in many ways the culmination of his dedication on perfecting the game engine for this World War 2 theatre that started with War in Russia for the Apple II in 1984 and the subsequent Second Front.

This is a great game, but be sure to get the original 1993 version (1.1). The AI in the Matrix remake versions is totally crap, and despite some art upgrades, the original 1993 version is better and it's AI will give you a fair run for your money.

This is version 1.1. Matrix Games offers a v3.3 "Matrix edition" for free on their website. That version doesn't come with sound emulation though. Definitely one of SSI's best products.

Incredibly complex game that has a high learning curve, but is well worth it. AI is good making it difficult for Germans to win in later scenarios, which is unlike other games of this era.
