There's a few ways to make that game work on modern systems (Windows 7 and later):

1. You can use nGlide to play the game, using the updated exe file provided on this page (mirror here). Simply install nGlide, replace original killertank.exe by updated exe file and then choose the Glide mode in game settings

2. You can also try to use DirectX fix, simply copy & replace killertankDX.exe to the folder with installed game. That fix works with English version but it's not compatible with Russian version

3. Or you can use this instruction provided by Egon68 from LegendsWorld:

Game has 3 cartoonlike clips - intro, middle part, and extro. For some reason the game don't show those, at least under Win7. Clips can be seen from disc (or mounted image) from: _driveletter_:\KillerTank\data\clip or from Youtube

It's important to consider that the game corrupts itself. Every now and then scripting errors occurs (eg. powerplant needing to be destroyed is invisible and can't be destroyed, disabled powershields do not come down and thus denying progress) and loading previous save do not help - quite often the loads "forget" the situation they were saved on and carry on the bug occurred later in the game. Only level restart helps and for that there is may be need to use a cheat: AECHEATS - Cheats enabled; AECLEV XY - Go to level, where X is the campaign number and Y is the mission number; more cheats

Game also crashes at times (Problem Event Name: APPCRASH error in Windows7 and somehow "learns" to keep crashing at same places or after little playtime). To change visual settings for DirectX version of the game (like resolution) one should run kt.exe in game folder, but it is not working under Win7 (it works under WinXP). The game resolution can be changed in _INSTALLEDPATH_\Killer Tank\data\cfg\default.hps :

"resolution=1.000000" is 640*480. Changing the value to:
"resolution=2.000000" gives 800*600,
"resolution=3.000000" gives 1024*768 (that is also the max - adding bigger number like 4 gives no result).
