Works great on Win. 10. On my 10, though, it seems to crash when I attempt to save a project or exit the program. I've also run this on my Microsoft Surface laptop flawlessly, only reason I don't use that more is because it's a hand-me-down I got cheap but it overheats easily and causes the screen to warp and tear. Not sure if anyone else has had that crashing problem as well and found a solution.
I've already tried running as admin under compatability Win. XP and Win. 7 but no change. No big deal if there isn't a solution, since I can easily emulate the PS1 original or the sequels on PS2, was just curious about a workaround.

Thanks for the upload! Was able to get this running in a Windows 98 virtual machine under Virtualbox, using the free softgpu driver for acceleration along with patcher9x. For some reason my original Music 2000 copy just flat out wouldn't start, but this copy did!

ok... so I've now installed this on my new pc that i built... first in order to get it to install at all you must download DirectX 7.0 and right click to "--(edit compatibility settings to windows 98/Me and run as administrator)--" remember this as well be doing it a few times. once you do that install DirectX 7.0 and say yes to all. now that this is installed take the .iso file you have and burn it to a cd or DVD-r, once burned you need to go to my computer and right click on the cd/DVD drive, select open (NOT open autoplay), inside the disc menu i want you to go to 2 files... "setup" and "start" need to also have their compatibility settings changed to the above settings. now that these are set stay in the cd menu and double click "setup" this will take you through the setup procedure. after the setup procedure is finished do not view the notes, and continue back to the desktop. now from your start menu load the game and it should run

Okay I've finally got this running on Windows 10 via 98se emulated in PCem, using a celeron 533, 256gb ram, 2gb hdd file, 3fdx voodoo3 2000 and a soundblaster 2.0. DX7.0 installs and works as should.

I was able to download and install the game however, I can't play it because I don't have the disc. How can play it without the disc?

Oh wow! I totally forgot about this awesome site. I believe it was around way back when "freefunfiles.com" existed. This is literally the only site I have ever found MTV Music Generator for PC. Many don't know how good of a music making program that really is, even today. I used to use MTV Music Generator on PS1, and there was nothing that could compare as far as the amount of riffs, the editability and the user friendliness of the whole thing. I have downloaded professional software and it doesn't compare at all. MTV Music Generator is number one, hands down. I just wish they were still making new versions.

I've tried this file on a laptop about 5 years ago with no success, but have just tried this on my new laptop on which I recently upgraded Windows to Windows 11, and mounting the iso then using the .exe file does work.
So so happy.

Again, you need windows98 to run this properly, with an ATI Gpu NOT anything like the 7800gs, the gpu needs to be a native directX 7 card with maximum 128mb of video ram, it’s nothing to do with dual core cpus crashing the software at all, win98 can only use 1 cpu core anyway.
It will crash even in win98 if you aren’t using the right hardware, which is sound blaster live or audigy2zs, an ATI dx7 graphics card and maximum of 512mb of system ram on a hard drive or ssd that has a maximum capacity of 120gb.
Don’t even bother trying to run this on Xp, win7, or win10, it’s not designed to run on NT based operating systems, it was made in 1999!
Not even win98 emulation on a win7 pc will run it either, you need proper hardware, my advise is to grab yourself a cheap win98 laptop, also burn the ISO to a CD, don’t run it from a virtual cd drive, the routines in the software know if you’re using a proper IDE burner or not.
Recommended pc specs to run this 100 perfect are as follows
Pentium 3 cpu at 866mhz or amd equivilent
256 or 512mb ram
64 or 128mb ATI graphics card
Win95 or 98 second edition (me would be even better as it supports usb midi)

Had this for the PS1, and was able to do some really amazing music with it. Due to the fact that the disc is a dark colored one, the disc could not be read by the PS2 or later.
Of all the versions I found of MTV Music Generator, the best one is the one for PS! It has deep features that let you create your own sounds, riffs, and even effects. I was able to use the editing features to make a guitar note scream, thereby creating my own lead guitar riffs. My problem at that time was that I had no way to move my files to a computer, and you could not add your own vocals in directly through the PS1! Made recording our songs more difficult to do and have sound good.
That said, I am hoping this will help with those problems. The Windows 10 thing might present yet another set of problems, but I want to get back into using MTV Music Generator. So I'm hoping my W10 64 bit single core processor machine will work well with this.

For those who make or used to make music with this software, its PS1 counterpart or its many sequels, somebody created a discord server about Music 2000/MTV Music Generator. Here is the link: https://discord.gg/VxyufYhGWx

Having the same problem someone else mentioned regarding loading songs. I am on windows 10. I am able to run the program fine and using pretty much all of the features. However, when I attempt to load a song I saved, it crashes. I tried loading a demo song and got the same result.
Anyone have any suggestions?

And I'm talking running the game using the original CD in the CD-ROM drive, not with an ISO.

No, this game DOES work on Windows 7 Pro x64. The problem is, it randomly crashes. The reason for that is because the game was made for a single core machine, not multiple cores, so PC's with more than one core mess with the programming causing it to crash. Before running mtv music generator open Task Manager and minimize it.
The kind-of fix is, once you get the game running, quickly ALT+TAB to your already open Task Manager, in the Processes Tab, right click the process for mtv music generator, and then click, Set Affinity. You should see multiple check boxes and they are all checked. Uncheck all the boxes, but leave CPU 0 checked. Now you're telling mtv music generator only to run using one core, and it will be more stable, and it won't crash as quickly or as often. This may or may not entirely fix mtv music generator from crashing.
There is a known crashing problem with SimCity 4 Deluxe on multiple core systems. And if you Set Affinity in that game, and only check mark CPU 0, the game doesn't crash randomly. So, I try it with older Windows games that seem to randomly crash. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
When you restart your computer however, and you want to run the program, you'll have to do that whole Set Affinity thing again, but I remember reading a long long time ago that you can set it up so that it sets the affinity for you, but I never did it.

Able to click the setup.exe and even go through the setup on start.exe but after hitting setup nothing happens. Same reaction when mounted or just unzipped. Does this need to be from a cd? Daemon tools allows mount from any ISO and mounted the ISO as a drive.
J76 2020-10-08 0 point
This works on windows 10. Mount iso with daemon tools, run the setup from the mounted iso, leave iso mounted after install, go to codemasters folder on c drive (or wherever you installed it) double click mtvmusic and it works
Letztergeist 2020-08-24 0 point
Install worked fine. Didn't have to mount the iso even. Maybe it did it by itself because the disk was showing as drive G: but I didn't have to mount it myself. This program was hella fun back in the day. I downloaded mainly to rip some drum samples, but some of the bass sounds and pads weren't too bad for that intentional lofi kinda vibe.
POE 2020-08-18 1 point
Ive already told you it won't work on anything but windows98, mount the iso with a tool of your choice then run it, emulation WILL NOT work.
cesarmucci 2020-05-18 2 points
I have the original instalation CD, but it just won't install in my PC with Windows 10 64bit.
POE 2020-03-08 2 points
Build yourself a socket 754 pc with windows 98se and 512mb ram, this works perfect then, emulation will not work.
