The Civil War
DOS - 1995
Description of The Civil War
Here is the video game “The Civil War”! Released in 1995 on DOS, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's a strategy game, set in a historical battle (specific/exact) and real-time themes.

For a 1995 Simulation, this game tries to accomplish mechanics that won't be successfully pulled off for another 10 years. That said, It didn't do any of them particularly well. Yet, here we are 25 years after The Civil War's release and were still looking for that multi-faceted grand strategy gem that we know CAN be made, just hasn't gotten there yet.

Dagger had promised that this would be an adaptation of sorts of Harry Turtledove's "Guns of the South", but they never could get the rights for that ATL novel, and the game wound up being your typical "War of Northern Aggression" sim. Not a bad version, but not as good as it could have been.
