Action Soccer
DOS - 1995
Description of Action Soccer
A quick and succinct synopsis of this cartoonish soccer game from MobyGames:: "Action soccer is a quick and uncomplicated soccer game with two different graphic styles (2D overview and 3D isometric).
The 16 teams have 6 skills like speed, strength, shotpower etc. [The game offers no realistic factors or rules such as] offside, fatigue or tactic. You can play a friendly game, the UBI-Cup, a championship or a tournament. In few options you can change the weather (sun, night, rain, snow) or little tactic (offense, defense, normal). Worth mentioning is also the funny audio-commentary from Jonathan Pearce and the editor."
All in all, this "light" soccer game is worth a look if you prefer arcade-style games with little regard to actual rules or realism. But even as a pure arcade game, Action Soccer is inferior to Sensible Software's beloved Sensible World of Soccer series by a longshot.

DosBox 0.74 + Win7 (64bit) - Works AWESOME!
I admittedly don't know all the keypresses but this game looks great! There are cartoony type teams to choose from, each with strengths and weaknesses.. you can pick how to have players on field, how agreessive to be or defensive - though I didn't find menu key to SELECT these - so that part of the menu right before game start I was a little puzzled.
The graphics are wonderful, the sound is extremely minimal during gameplay.
NOTE: The gameplay was really slow then I tried the DosBox key combo to speed things up as a "please work well" ditch effort - and CNTL+F12 - a couple taps brought the game speed up to perfect! Now I need to check other games I have that are too slow - and speed them up.
(I knew I could slow down games in DosBox and hit the speed up to bring em back - I had no idea that DosBox doesn't start on full speed! Remember that! I will!)
Anyway this game looks great and is going in my "keeper" pile for future gaming! Now on to try more abandonware (I'm on a kick installing and testing and commenting and having a ball!)
