Description of Alien Fires: 2199 AD
For its second game, Paragon made its first attempt at an action/RPG hybrid. Almost everything about the game is primitive, from the plot to simplistic gameplay (which comprise mostly static combat scenes that are seemingly resolved purely by random chance).
A humble beginning, indeed, but at least it does attempt to combine action and RPG elements... a focus that Paragon would refine over the years.

...HAW! I remember this one. Most of the gaming industry at the time suspected that Paragon had gone and ripped off chunks of the Wizardry source code, considering the similarities between the two games, and that anyone with an NCSD P-System programming set could easily crack open the source code - P-System was a cross-platform interpreted language instead of a compiled one, and the Apple ][ version was easily accessible to those who could afford/pirate a copy of the P-System, which wasn't very damn hard.
