Celery
PC-98 - 1989
Description of Celery
Ecchi games are typically known for their low quality and poor-to-nonexistent gameplay (many are simply text interface/visual novels), but there's something strangely compelling about Celery.
The premise is someone with a basket is trying to catch falling laundry and other bizarre (and sometimes disgusting) items. Over the course of each stage, the goal is catch full sets of each article of clothing while avoiding being hit by falling rocks and preventing bombs from reaching the bottom of the screen. Your reward when you reach the end of each level is seeing the girl in the picture in various stages of undress corresponding to the completed sets of collected items of clothing.
There are items that speed or slow the rate at which objects fall, items that increase or decrease the size of your laundry basket, and items that may reset the collected item sets you've collected to zero. It's actually pretty challenging.
The character art is pretty average and there's no audio. Object sprites are detailed enough to be easily recognizable in most cases, but they are nothing special. You will need to manually cap your emulator speed for it to run properly; 1.5mhz seemed to do the trick.
Is it a high quality game? No. It's not even particularly high quality ecchi, but the game itself is oddly addictive.
