Description of Eliza
A cool personal psychiatrist program shipped with Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro, Dr. Sbaitso was designed to showcase digitized voices Sound Blaster card was able to produce.
Tell your problems or ask questions using standard parser (e.g. "Why does everyone hate me?") and the digital Dr. Sbaitso will intone various random bits of wisdom (e.g. "Tell me why") in broken mechanical voice. It's a neat little program that's good for a few laughs :)

Eliza is like a chat simulation with a bit of artifical intelligence in it. Theres another on the Macintosh called Azile, an evil version of Eliza. Azile is spelled backward, so its evil minded. Theres another one called "Verbal Abused" (VA) , a disk based version of Eliza for the Atari 8bit. VA will verbally abuse your language and it gets smarter over time. Cool.

The Commodore 64 version is not English. I think it's Dutch.

When Eliza first came out I edited the (Basic) software text to make it relate to my customers' interest in recreational scuba. I called it "Dr Robb". They really loved it.

@FORDALULZ - as far as I know, Dawkins has written little about AI.
Saying a program written ~1963 proves AI won't work is odd. The people raising concerns, eg. Bostrom, have repeatedly said it is not a present danger but might be so in several decades and we need to think about the issues now.

This really does highlight how ridiculous the entire science of AI/Artifical Consciousness really was - and still is. This is the kind of program that would give Richard Dawkins a boner.
