The release date was actually 1993.
Good game and not too hard to play in Japanese if you're familiar with the Daisenryaku Series. The drawback is the limited number of scenarios, although there is a map editor. This game was ported to the PS1 as "Player's Spirit" (1996). The Player's Spirit graphics are different (Iron Storm style) but otherwise, same as Gendai EX.
