Gunship 2000
DOS - 1991
Also released on: Amiga
Description of Gunship 2000
After the first Gunship, Microprose made a 2000 version with better graphics, deeper story and more gameplay possibilities. In Gunship 2K, you take control of an helicopter and have to fulfill war mission across the world.
Several different gunship are available, including the famous Commanche, and the player have to select for each mission, after the briefing, the weaponry he wants to use. Fuel management is also a part of the game and lifting off with full weapons was often impossible.
As the game and the player's rank progress, the mission are not made alone anymore, some friendly helicopter are under your order to complete the objectives.
Micropose was unable to made a serie out Gunship, the sequel release in 2000 was not good. The fans turned to Jane's Longbow as it was close in spirit to the original Gunship games.
Gunship 2000 has an addon available: Gunship 2000: Philippine Islands & Antarctica Scenario Disk With Mission Builder, don't miss it!

This game needs to be put back here for download, the steam and GOG version is simply an abandonware version thats been ripped and the person selling it dos not legally own it. Put this back up, its been verified.

Bullshit. Gunship 2000 is an exceptional game and I'd reckon it holds up better than Longbow 2.

Game is broken, despite running SETUP, then GS2000, the game immediately crashes with 'ERROR: File is Missing'

Despite several commenters reporting that this game crashes on the briefing section, I've had no problems of any kind. Most games on this site play perfectly well If you're running on a Windows PC and there are several excellent (and free!) DOS emulators available online. Remember, these games are all originally written for computers of earlier generations or and may not perform well - or at all - on mobile phones and similar devices. It's probably worth buying a cheap, second-hand PC just to play these thousands of free and great games!
I first played Gunship 2000 on my Amiga 500 In the early 1990's - I'm enjoying It as much now as I did way back then! Persevere at It, because once you get to grips with the various controls, It really does become a pleasure and a thoroughly enjoyable game which will have you playing again and again!
The controls are very difficult to learn by 'trial and error', although once airborne, the chopper Is easy to control and the weapons easy to use (I recommend starting with all of the realism options set to 'off' until you have a feel for the game). Do an online search for keyboard controls for Gunship 2000 and you'll soon be destroying those enemies. Truly a great game!

and better to play Philippine's addon that is also at this website, because this version has corrupted flight model: no wind at high realism, spoiled flight physics, corrupted autorotation landing (it is possible to land on autorotation but heli do not do it correctly).

I try to configure the game to use a joystick but I does not allow me! can you help?

I bought this game years ago on floppy disc and have wasted A LOT of time playing it. I think I even ruined at least one joystick playing it so much. This is one of the best helicopter combat simulation games out there. I just wish I had a cracked copy so I don't have to refer to the page out of the manual with all the codes on it. I did scan it and save it as a .jpg in the GS2000 folder so just have to switch out of the DOSBox window and look at the .jpg, but would be easier if I didn't have to do that.

I do wish there were a Android game, doing the same thing as Gunship 2000. I specifically liked the squadron mode, having up to 5 teammembers. What would be really great is to have live players instead of computer. Have a squad leader based on his rank, and do missions from search and rescue, seek and destroy, or support roles. Either way, it's good fun, and good camaraderie.

At last! Someone else actually noticed the glaringly obvious "briefing" crash! I was beginning to think I was the only one suffering this! The download from Abandonia.com is exactly the same, and even on their forums no-one seems to have any idea it crashes!
I mean - are these fools for real? Or is it just us two in the entire world having this issue?

And don't forget the Nicholas Cage film... Every single frame of that movie's briefing in this game!

If you avoid the briefing folder it will play, but it will hang up if you check the briefing for each mission.

Fantastic game. its a bit of a drag until you get your own squadron, but then the game really kicks in.
