DOS - 1987
Also released on: Mac - Amiga - Apple II - Apple IIgs - Atari ST - SEGA Master System
Description of King's Quest
Classic is a name used all to often when it comes to older games, but the term is certainly rings true with Kings Quest. This EGA masterpiece is the grandfather of graphic adventure gaming that not only spawned 7 sequels, a remake and later a series reboot but was the beginning of the golden age of the genre and defined it developer, Sierra Online.
For those that are returning to the game for the nostalgia, be ready to relive some great memories as you take Sir Grahame on an adventure through the Kingdom of Daventry in this 2.5D quest. In today's age of point and click there is something satisfying with typing in all your actions, with finding the clue you need without the game giving you a hint and it lighting up for you. For those that are new to the game, this is a must play, a living piece of gaming history Just remember this was originally released in 1984 with this, the DOS version, released in 1987.
A good walkthrough for the game can be found here - http://au.ign.com/faqs/2002/kings-quest-walkthroughfaq-369983
Also, check out the 1990 remake, King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown.

So, where can I download the other versions?
I can't buy them on GOG, so what, are they just gone?

A decent front end will eliminate so many issues so many dosboxers are experiencing.

To save your game, change the directory to a removable media storage, such as a flash drive of a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk (if applicable).

running in dosbox is easy... 2014-05-03 -2 points DOS version
If using Dosbox don't install the game it is ready to play. Open the directory kq1old and then run the batch file kq1old. So in dosbox go to the directory where you store your games and then...
Cd kq1old

I tried to run this game using Dosbox. Seemed to install okay except it complained it was missing a few files, then gave me the "missing 'agi' file" as well when I tried to actually run it. Are we missing something here??
