Radio Baseball
DOS - 1986
Description of Radio Baseball
One of Electronic Arts' oldest sport releases and one of the few sports simulations it ever published, Radio Baseball is a solid baseball simulation from the now-defunct Diamond Edge Software. Despite its age, the game holds up very well with time, thanks to excellent team choices (you can choose Greats and Superstars teams that span 5 decades), strong coaching options, and good computer AI.
The game begin with you choosing the two sides (either or both can be human or computer-controlled), which players suffer injury this season, which pitchers need to rest, and off you go to the diamond. In-game choices are excellent: you can even choose whether to let players use their own judgment as to whether or not they will try to steal when on base, guard/unguard the lines, change fielding options, and so on. League games can be saved to disk and continued at your leisure, although sadly the game doesn't keep many detailed statistics. The fact that it's a text-only simulation may also alienate fans of action-oriented baseball sims.
Overall, though, Radio Baseball is a great simulation that sets the stage for successive baseball sims, and predates Dynamix' solid Front Page Sport Baseball by almost a decade. Two thumbs up!
