From the author defunct website:

I have created a Demo on the PC of Secret Agent Dorito to better illustrate my idea in action. This demo portrays one small episode in the potential adventures of Secret Agent Dorito. The location of this demo can be found at the end of the movie trailer.

Secret Agent Dorito is an Action-Platformer staring the titular hero: Secret Agent Dorito. It is a mix of risky platforming and free-form, chip battling action.

The story is a tongue-in-cheek tale of a chip who is a secret agent and the first in line when the world needs saving. The writing is chock-full of humor and never takes itself too seriously. The main character is a stoic and proficient Dorito chip who often ends up in over-the-top action set pieces such as snowboarding down a hill to avoid an avalanche or chasing an escaping fiend on a motorcycle or riding atop a cruising missile, trying to stop it. These sections are all handled through various mini-games. The bulk of the game consists of Dorito's exploits on foot.

There are two main elements of being on foot. Those are Combat and Platforming.

The combat is made up of segments of “Free Form Action”. This means that the player has direct control over the main character’s fighting hand which gives them more control, finesse and expressiveness to their encounters. Under this system, the player only has to move the Right Thumbstick and their weapon hand will mimic the player’s movements. This allows the player to aim ranged weapons quickly and accurately. It also allows players to create their own combos with melee weapons by swinging the thumbstick in the way that they would like to swing their sword. There is an experimental version of this system in the PC Demo using the mouse to control the hand. There are many types of weapons, each working a different way with the “Free Form” system which constantly gives the player something new to discover as they experiment with all the weapons.

The weapons explored in the Demo are as follows:

  • Pistol
  • Sub Machine Gun
  • Shotgun
  • Assault Rifle
  • Revolver
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Grenade
  • Sword
  • Knife
  • Electric Baton
  • Katana
  • Tonfa
  • Flame Thrower
  • Strength Glove
  • Ball
  • Umbrella

There is also a lot more potential to explore many more weapons and how they can be used with the “Free Form Action” System.

The enemies in the game are generic versions of various chips. In the demo they are generic potato chips, cheese puffs and tortilla chips. Other food related enemies can be used in the final version as well.

When the player is not fighting, he is occupied by trying to reach the next section by running, jumping, swinging, sliding, hanging and swimming. While only some of these are portrayed in the PC Demo, the full version could have a wide variety of platforming situations and puzzles which challenge the players to maneuver through their environments to reach the next area. There are few things more satisfying that narrowly making a challenging jump to reach the other side of a spike-laden pit.

Secret Agent Dorito also has a lot of Multiplayer potential. The combination of action, weapon experimentation and “Free Form”, expressive controls would make for an enthralling online or offline brawl game. The players could choose between different flavors of Doritos and customize them with various accessories such as hats and eyewear. Then they could take their character into assorted game modes such as “Deathmatch”, “Capture the Flag” or “King of the Chip Dip”. Frantic action and comical antics would define the multiplayer portion of the game.

Controls on PC Demo:

  • WASD or Arrow Keys- Movement
  • Mouse Movement- Move Weapon Hand
  • Left Mouse Button- Use/Pickup Weapon
  • Right Mouse Button- Throw Weapon
  • Space or Middle Mouse Button- Switch Weapons
  • R- Reload

These of course can be modified to the players preference and if they prefer to press a button to jump instead of pressing Up on the thumbstick then they may assign that too.

In conclusion, Secret Agent Dorito is game that is achievable to develop (Expressly for an XBLA title.), brings something new to the table, and most importantly it is full of humor and fun for the player. These elements combined will certainly attract players to the game and help with the continued advertisement of the Doritos Brand.

Heck, it made me crave Doritos just watching the little guy jump around.

Thank you.
