How to play War Leaders: Clash of Nations Windows
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, it works fine, the game supports widescreen. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Notes for details.
US release (English & Spanish languages) uploaded to our website is DRM-Free re-release, simply install & play. To install the game, mount the ISO image of first DVD and run Setup.exe; when the installation process will ask for it, mount the ISO image of second DVD. That release is DRM-Free and includes the game pre-patched to v1.3, you can play the game right after the installation, without NoDVD (we added NoDVDs for all versions in case if someone will be looking for them)
Notes:
- If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe as Administrator and in Compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
- If the game doesn't work - run it in Compatibility mode with old Windows (like Windows XP) and as Administrator. Also, it is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game, and K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos & audio
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- If the game starts only with a black screen or the game window minimize after the intro videos: if you have that or similar issues (the game crashing to desktop after the intro videos, mouse cursor in the game flickering/disappearing) - run the game in Windowed mode. To do that go to game folder, find WLCoN.ini file, open it in Notepad and change the line
FULL_SCREEN = 1toFULL_SCREEN = 0, to set the game to Windowed mode. It seems that the game works more stable in Windowed mode, so it is recommended to run the game in Windowed mode if you have any technical issues - You can also change the other graphics settings in same WLCoN.ini file inside game folder, like screen resolution, Anisotropic filtering, quality of 3D-models, etc. All settings in WLCoN.ini file have notes , so you can easily understand what parameter you change. Don't forget to make a back-up of original WLCoN.ini file first!
- It seems that the game has compatibility issues with some laptop built-in graphics cards. If you play the game on laptop and has issues - try to change
ADAPTER =line in WLCoN.ini file to 0 or 1 - If the game crashed at the beginning of the turn and you cannot load the last savegame - the reason is that the last savegame becomes invalid when the game crashes. Load autosave of previous turn, by default the game makes autosaves of every turn. Please note that the game load the savegames pretty long, even on SSD
- Original US release was protected with SecuROM v7 DRM but we found DRM-Free re-release. German release is protected with ProtectDiSC v8 DRM, Multi-3 release (Czech, Polish & Hungarian languages) is protected with SafeDisc v4 DRM; use NoDVDs to "break" the DRM protection and play without the disc. If you see the error that there's not enough space on the hard drive when you copy NoDVD files - re-install the game in non-system folder, like
D:/Games/War Leaders, Windows Protection may block copying of files to system folders (likeC:/Program FilesorC:/Windows) - NoDVDs fro Multi-3 release (Czech, Polish & Hungarian languages) showed many generic warnings, here's the scan report. Most warnings are generic, about suspicious/unsafe file, the usual case with "cracked" executables. That release was protected with SafeDisc v4.85 DRM which theoretically works on modern systems, so you can play the game without using NoDVD, by mounting the ISO image in virtual drive before launch. As alternative option, try to use SafeDisc Loader tool which allows to play old games protected with SafeDisc DRM on modern systems
- Original Russian release was protected with infamous StarForce DRM that doesn't work on modern systems and even can "kill" them. But we found the repack with removed StarForce DRM, check this thread for more details about that repack
- Cheats for the game, press the next button combinations when you play: Alt + B for instant construction of building and units, Alt+M to get $1000 money, Alt+O to get 1000 units of fuel, Alt+I to instantly research all technologies in the queue, Alt+R to immediately unlock the next production
