The classic version of the game. Still the best one. Never cared for the point and click VGA versions. CGA and it doesn’t bother me at all. Makes incredible use of everything from the graphics to the interface. This was my introduction to the series. 1985 was the year for this game and the graphical version of The Oregon Trail. These games were the exception of educational games that sucked.

I think I played the version of this game that was on ether Windows 95 or 98. It was pretty fun for an educational game. I hear they were planing a movie based on it.

Also available on the CoCo 3 (Radio Shack), as a pair of diskettes booting OS9 level II. However it looks like it was a quick port from a 4-color TV mode on another computer such as CGA PC, because it's almost the worst that could be done on a CoCo 3 without being compatible with the CoCo 2. The CoCo 3 is more like a low-res EGA (320x200 in 16 colours, custom palette from 64 colours).

Totally agree. I was a kid when this game was hot. It was popular because it could make it's way into schools. It was extremely unique. It was the first video game I remembered that made my jaw drop in amazement. Teachers loved the educational aspect, it was clean, and funny too. Very clever game. I learned geography and how to use an encyclopedia with this game. The TV show came after a few Carmen games were released, but continue to re-release them when the show was on the air.

I've done some research, and discovered that there were even more versions of this than I thought. There were three, not two, VGA version(Normal, Enhanced, and Deluxe) a Super Nintendo version, a Commodore 64 version, and an Apple II version in addition to all the versions listed above(They did make a Macintosh and Amiga version too, like I thought.) Dang this game was popular.

I just remembered that the NES game is a port of "Where In Time Is Carmen San-Diego?" not "Where in The World...." I've had so many of these games(everything but the Macintosh and Amiga Versions), and have a hard time keeping them apart.
To show you how much of a geek I am, they were all legally purchased by me in their original boxes(Some of them used.)

Dang, this has to be one of the most remade games out there. Not only was there this CGA Version, but there were also two VGA versions, a SVGA CD ROM version, and an NES port. I think there may have been Macintosh and Amiga versions as well. I guess that's what happens when you base a popular TV show on a video game.
