Description of X-COM: Terror from the Deep

A must-have for any strategy and wargame lovers, Terror from the deep is quite similar to UFO, but have more various sceneries, is more complexity and a bigger longevity. This X-COM got more plans, more guns, bewitching music and formidable AI (too much sometime). Some bad points: interception phases can be laborious sometime, the game interface is still messy and the game is not in S-VGA!

Tons of time is necessary to play it, beware!

Whoa !!! I played this right after UFO Defense... played until my fingers bled ... it was and still is a great time killer... I love it, won't deny.

I have downloaded "X-COM: Terror from the Deep" which is in DOS. Your site with this download also shows a patch, and I have downloaded it as well. I am running it through Boxer on a Mac OS 10.6.8, but can not figure out how to use the patch. I can not even open the "read me" located in the patch file, as Mac says there is no app to do so. How would I use this patch?

I had some difficulty getting this to install correctly. If anyone else is having problems, this is what I did to get it to work:

imgmount x C:\path\to\TERROR.ISO -t iso
x:
multi

Then just go though the install.

DON'T run the install command. It does not install it correctly.

Guy Fawkes 2016-12-15 0 point

Do you think you can distribute this game with the animated cinematics? Even though the HDD install replaces them with slides, they can still be re-enabled by doing the following: Copy the ANIMS\ folder from the CD-ROM into the game directory then create a file called cdspeed.dat and place it in the SOUND\ directory. To create the cdspeed.dat, the easiest method is use any plain text editor and save a blank file as CDSPEED.DAT.

could NEVER figure out how to play these X-COM games?
to this day I have no idea how to play them....too overwhelming!
I need a frigging manual or something, a lot of people like these
games though so they must be doing something right.

moo king 2015-06-06 0 point DOS version

you all say use dosbox, but it refuses to even open the folder of x-com terror from the deep,
other games work fine though :S

The PSX version was PAL-only, so it would make sense to have an Italian option. Can't speak for the Dos, though.

gohulface 2015-02-22 -4 points DOS version

is the game even in Italian? i had it for PS1 and the game had italian language, but i bought it on steam the other day and there isn't the italian language....

Seushimare 2013-10-11 0 point DOS version

the best advice would be for you to get windows based MS-DOS emulator. im using DOSBOX and the game works fine with it, just read readme included with this software. its simple and easy and works for anyone.

T-Com Troller of the Deep

YourNeighborhoodFriendlyGeek 2013-08-10 0 point DOS version

you could also make a dos boot disk, put the game's files on another, boot from the disk and play it that way... although the sound would be messed up and on new pc's it would be waaaaay too fast.

DerTyp65 2013-04-18 0 point DOS version

i have a problem too in the strategy parts the game is way too fast

GB 2013-04-09 0 point DOS version

I have problem getting sound to work. Any advice?

Gybyterian 2013-03-07 0 point DOS version

@weynerest: First grab the patch (http://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/tftd-2.1/), then extract it somewhere.
Ignore TFTDCD files. Copy only TFTDHD folder, TFTDHD.EXE and UPDATE.COM files into your game directory. Double click on TFTDHD.EXE and when it finish extracting data, run DosBox, navigate to your game directory, type in command line: UPDATE HD and press enter.
You will see the process of updating.

waynerest 2013-03-07 0 point DOS version

Gybyterian, can you share what and how to patch it to v2.1?
Thanks.

Gybyterian 2013-05-02 0 point DOS version

Also, remember guys to patch it to v2.1, I had to do it because I could't research magnetic navigation. Patch solves so many bugs.

@Emmanuel Goldstein: If you have problems with speed of the game, configure DoxBox to your liking. This worked for me:
fullscreen=true
aspect=true
core=dynamic
cycles=30000
Change number of cycles if needed.

I've tried many versions of xcom2, and always there were some issues. This one however runs like a dream!

Smoijuto 2013-02-11 0 point DOS version

Emmanuel Goldstein had that problem too. Either run it in DosBox or pick up the X-com Collector's Edition. I did both.
