Download Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition (Windows)

The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11, it works fine. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Guide and Notes for details

Install & play guide (for singleplayer with bots):

• Mount the ISO image of original DVD. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools Lite
• Launch the installation and enter CD key. It is recommended to install the game not in default path but in some other, non-system folder, like C:/Games/Battlefield 2142, so you won't have troubles with fixes or mods
• Skip the installation of GameSpy Comrade app, GameSpy servers were closed in 2014 and doesn't work anymore. Also skip EA Registration if it will appear at the end of installation, press "Register Later"
• After you installed the game, you need to patch it to v1.51. Either install the official patches - first the patch v1.50, then the patch v1.51; or use the unofficial installer for the patch v1.51 that includes the content of both patches so you don't have to install the patch v1.50 prior
• The patch v1.51 is the latest official patch for the game, it also includes the content of Northern Strike expansion pack. Patch v1.51 removes DRM protection, so you don't need to use any NoCDs!
• Now you need to use Singleplayer fix because the game was requiring GameSpy connection even for offline play. That fix is a generic profile for Battlefield 2142, simply copy Battlefield 2142 folder from the archive to Documents directory (if there's already such folder - delete existing folder and put the one from the archive). As alternative, you can use BF2142 Hub launcher to create a generic profile - in "Help" tab click on Redirects* list, select "Offline" and click "Install" to create a generic profile for singleplayer
• Open the game folder and find BF2142.exe. Right-click on BF2142.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows XP" and "Run as Administrator"
• Launch the game, select "singleplayer" profile and play. If the game doesn't work in compatibility mode with Windows XP - try to launch it in compatibility mode with other version of Windows (Windows 95, 98, 2000, etc.)
• That way you'd be able to play the game in singleplayer mode with bots. For instructions how to play Battlefield 2142 in the multiplayer, check the guide below. To play the game in multiplayer, you will need to use BF2142 Hub launcher

If you have troubles with installation of Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition, install the standard Battlefield 2142 and then patch it to v1.51. You will have the same content as in Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition because the latest official patch v1.51 included the content of Northern Strike expansion pack. Or you can download the Full-Rip archive that includes the full pre-installed game v1.51 from Origin release. If you want to play Origin release with BF2142 Hub launcher, don't forget to show the path to game folder in "Help" tab of BF2142 Hub launcher

How to play Battlefield 2142 in the multiplayer and find the multiplayer servers:

• The official GameSpy servers of the game were closed in July, 2014 at the same time as GameSpy service has "died". But you can still play Battlefield 2142 in the multiplayer on BF2142 Reclamation servers, by using BF2142 Hub launcher. BF2142 Reclamation is a project that aims to revive Battlefield 2142 multiplayer, their website has the system of stats, leaderboards, etc.
• To use BF2142 Hub simply install the game v1.51 (following the guide above), then run BF2142 Hub as administrator and in the "Help" tab click on Redirects* list, select "OpenSpy" and click "Install"; now the game will be patched to work through OpenSpy instead of "dead" GameSpy. Additionally, download the Reclamation MapPack through "Downloads" tab, that maps are used on BF2142 Reclamation servers. After that configure the game settings in "Home" tab, launch the game, create a new account and you're ready to play Battlefield 2142 online! Here's also the video guide. • There's also a Russian-speaking NovGames 2142 community that has their own installer based on Origin release of Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition. BF2142 Hub launcher supports NovGames client too
• And you can always manually connect to the servers through IP-address, by clicking "Connect to IP" button on server selection screen. Check Game-Monitor or GS4u.net to find the list of live servers, PlayBF2 project also host some servers for Battlefield 2142, check this page for details. Or you can use the multiplayer utilities like OpenSpy, BF2142 Unlocker or GameRanger to host or play the multiplayer matches with your friends

BF2142 Hub launcher allows to play the game in multiplayer (check the guide above) and also has the option to enable wide screen resolutions, including the custom ones, and tweak some of the multiplayer settings. We highly recommend to use that launcher to play the game

About the mods:

• Like other Battlefield games, Battlefield 2142 has a lot of mods, including custom maps, graphics and rebalancing mods, and total conversion mods. You can find most of the mods and custom maps on ModDB, NexusMods, 3DShooterLegends, BF-Games.net or Gau-Games.de
• BF2142 Reclamation periodically hosts the multiplayer events for two popular Battlefield 2142 mods: Project Remaster overhaul mod that focuses on improving the game's visuals, gameplay and AI, and First Strike, the Star Wars-themed total conversion mod. You can easily download and install both mods through BF2142 Hub launcher

Notes:

• If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
• It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
• The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
• Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition had the unique CD key, so CD keys from standard Battlefield 2142 cannot be used for installation of Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition. If you have troubles with installation of Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition, install the standard Battlefield 2142 and then patch it to v1.51. You will have the same content as in Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition because the latest official patch v1.51 included the content of Northern Strike expansion pack
• The original retail releases of the game were protected with SafeDisc 4 DRM or SecuROM 7 DRM. But all DRM protections were officially removed in the official patch v1.51. In case if for some reason you don't want to update the game to v1.51, we also added NoCD for v1.50. Please note that most of the multiplayer servers work ONLY with the game v1.51
• The game is multilingual, with support of 15 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Traditional & Simplified Chinese, Polish, Czech and Russian languages. You can use Language Changer if you want to change the language of installed game
• If you have previously installed Battlefield 2142 and installed it again, and now the game crashes to the desktop or show the black screen - delete the game and game's folder in Documents directory, and after that make the clean installation
• The game requires a GameSpy connection to create even an offline profile, and it is not possible to do since GameSpy service were closed in 2014. To bypass that requirement use Singleplayer fix, it is a generic offline profile for Battlefield 2142 that allows to play the game in singleplayer with bots. To use it simply copy Battlefield 2142 folder from the archive to Documents directory; if there's already such folder - delete the existing folder and copy the one from the archive. The next time you run the game, select "singleplayer" account for offline play. Description of that fix says to disable Internet-connection before the launch of the game, but that profile should work even if you have the active Internet-connection, we tested it on Windows 10. As alternative, you can use BF2142 Hub launcher to create a generic profile - in "Help" tab click on Redirects* list, select "Offline" and click "Install" to create a generic profile for singleplayer. Generic profile allows to play only in offline mode in singleplayer with bots
• If Singleplayer fix doesn't load and you don't want to disable Internet-connection, you can use this Offline Only Fix. It is the edited BF2142.exe file with restricted Internet access, to use it replace BF2142.exe file in game directory. Don't use Offline Only Fix if you plan to play the online multiplayer!
• If you used Singleplayer fix before, and now want to play the game in online multiplayer, use BF2142 Hub launcher and patch it for online multiplayer (check the guide above), and then simply register a new account for online play. Generic profile fix is not required if you patched the game for multiplayer with BF2142 Hub!
• If you get "Invalid CD key" message when you try to connect to online servers or the game crashes during the connection - in BF2142 Hub launcher select "CD Key Fix" option, then click "Fix It" and enter a new CD key. Or use Battlefield 2142 Key Manager tool to change CD key of installed game
• For users of Windows 7/8 64-bit: if the game crashes on the launch, delete Battlefield 2142 folder in Documents directory and run the game again with default settings
• The game supports widescreen but the high screen resolutions are not available in game options by default. If you want to play the game in widescreen, run the game with +widescreen 1 command line argument: right-click on desktop shortcut -> Properties and and in "Target" line add +widescreen 1 at the end (should look like "C:\Games\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +widescreen 1). After that, run the game from that shortcut and new screen resolutions will be available in game options. If you play with BF2142 Hub launcher, you can simply enter the new screen resolution in the launcher settings. The game also can be played on ultrawide displays or multi-monitor setups, to do that use Widescreen Fixer tool
• If you want to force the game to run in selected screen resolution, you can do that with command line argument too: right-click on desktop shortcut -> Properties and and in "Target" line add +szx XXXX +szy YYYY at the end where XXXX & YYYY is the new screen resolution (for example, if you want to play with 1920x1080 screen resolution, add +szx 1920 +szy 1080, it should look like "C:\Games\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1080). You can also set the custom screen resolution in BF2142 Hub launcher
• HUD in wide screen resolutions will be stretched because it was designed for 4:3 screen ratio. If you want to play with the correct non-stretched HUD, use Widescreen HUD fix, it is the edited HUD files from Project Remaster mod
• If you want to play in Windowed mode, run the game with +fullscreen 0 command line argument. To play the game in Borderless Windowed mode, use one of extra tools to force Borderless Fullscreen Windowed mode
• If you want to change FOV (Field of View) in the game, use Widescreen Fixer tool
• MSAA 8x Anti-aliasing option in the game is broken, the maximum MSAA you can select is 4x. Also, the maximum Anisotropic filtering (called "Texture Filtering" in the game) is high as 4x. If you want to set the higher Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic filtering, force it through control of your video card or by running the game through dgVoodoo 2 and enabling that settings in dgVoodoo Control Panel
• Battlefield 2142 had a long-time issue with mouse skipping on modern hardware, when moving the camera horizontally, there are sharp jerks in the viewport. Luckily, that problem was fixed, use Mouse skipping fix if you have such an issue. However, use this fix carefully because it may conflict with multiplayer servers that has client check
• By default the framerate of the game is capped at 100 FPS. If you want to unlock the framerate cap, edit GameLogicInit.con file in Battlefield 2142/mods/bf2142 folder - open GameLogicInit.con file in Notepad and add the line game.lockfps 0 at the end. You can also unlock the framerate cap directly in the game, by entering game.lockfps 0 command to in-game console (press ~ to open the console). Please note that unlimited framerate may result in some issues like broken in-game scripts or physics, so if you notice such issues - delete game.lockfps 0 line from GameLogicInit.con file
• The game doesn't allow to enable Vertical Sync (Vsync) in game options, but you can do it manually by editing GameLogicInit.con file in Battlefield 2142/mods/bf2142 folder - open GameLogicInit.con file in Notepad and add the line renderer.vsync 1 at the end. Save the changes and run the game. If you want to disable Vsync, change 1 to 0 or delete the line. Optionally, you can try to force Vsync in control panel of your video card or with extra tools such as dgVoodoo 2
• The players who pre-ordered Battlefield 2142 at Best Buy got the unlockable BOFORS Defense Rifle as pre-order bonus. If you want to, you can install this mod that replaces SCAR 11 rifle for BOFORS Defense Rifle; that mod works only in singleplayer game
• If you want to play the singleplayer matches with bots, it is recommended to install Single Player Experience mod for better gameplay experience. That mod improves AI of bots and the balance of singleplayer mode, also it allows to play with bots on all official maps of Battlefield 2142 and Northern Strike expansion, instead of just a handful. If you don't want to use that mod and just want to play the "vanilla" game with bots, we recommend to use Offline Rewards fix that enables the ranked server rewards system in singleplayer mode
• You can tweak a lot of game options through the in-game console with console commands, or by editing the config-files. Check tweaking guide for all possible options
• The game can also be played on Linux systems, check this guide. If you have Linux system and want to host a dedicated server, download the server installer and then follow this instruction
• Brazilian translation patch showed some generic warnings on VirusTotal, here's the scan report. The file is probably safe to use, but for 100% safety you can install it through sandbox tool like Sandboxie or in Virtual Machine
