I tried running this but it won't work on Windows 10 64bit. Tried both the ISO and the RIP, neither worked. The ISO file mounts fine, and installs OK, but fails every time on the graphics driver popup menu. Tried all 5, none work at all. Tried all the compatibility modes, and no effect. Same results from the RIP version, just completely fails on the graphics driver popup screen/menu.
Too bad as I have fond memories of playing this game 20+ years ago.

I'm no expert whatsoever but this works (almost) fine for me. Able to play it with no major issues.
Downloaded RIP folder, unzipped. No faffing about. Runs on Windows 10 from "DTR" app (after changing compatibility to run as Windows 7) in folder with no tweaks and no fixes applied. Have to try different graphics driver options - best so far is "Software" - others don't work for me.
Only issue is some early screens are impossible to read - I couldn't see key options etc. Later screens to input name, choose races etc all work fine. Some of the screens showing the tracks to choose are also hard to read. Can return through later screens to options to see keys - it is basically the arrows and Left Shift to half-lock steering. Also saves fine and can go back to it.
Sometimes get black screen with sound as intro - pressing return gets to options screen, then it all works fine.
Once back in the early screens are still hard to read but later ones OK - don't know why.

So, as I'm trying to install DTR, it keeps bringing up 2 error codes, each one stating that it can't find certain files necessary for installation. One file is the "setup.lid" file, and the other is the "layout.bin" file, each with a different code. What am I doing wrong, and what do I need to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This was the predecessor of Flat Out, which is predecessor of Wreckfest. Still a lot of fun to play and amazing physics for its time. Rip version works like a charm on Win7, get it and enjoy!

An absolutely brilliant simulation of dirt stock car and late model racing.
Works nicely with a wheel and even has pretty solid force feedback. Fun, realistic physics with adjustable difficulty and good AI with a fun single player career.
Run it in Glide mode with nglide installed. Set your wheel to 360 degrees rotation, with combined accelerator/brake pedals.
You'll need to rebind your controls each time you start the game for some reason, but there's only a small handful so it only takes a few seconds.

if you have trouble mounting this CD,
rename both files to
FLT-DTR.CUE
FLT-DTR.BIN
I recommend use WinCDEmu
wincdemu.sysprogs.org/download

I bet this 1 uses the same Difference engine made 4 Powerslide, which is way better than this IMO. Considering that Powerslide has similar stadium track for the sole purpose of demonstration its trademark feature of sliding all the way to the finish line, it appears the devs decided to focus on that precise physics model & go on creating further games that contain such feature.
Too bad, they forgot to update the overall graphics as well thus making the game look way outdated, especially when compared to other racing titles from 1999 like, say, NFS High Stakes, Killer Loop, TOCA2 by Codemasters, Re-Volt, Trickstyle by Criterion, Rollcage by Attention 2 Detail etc. Dont get me wrong - I totally love Ratbag's Powerslide, but not this game since it puts their asses to shame, alas.
