Hi all,
For anyone who finds this and then hits this Smack movie missing error I (and claude) solved it.
Here are the steps. I'm using macOS and have homebrew installed. You need to install bchunk and hdiutil.
Step 1) Download both the v1.01 and the ISO from this website. I put everything into my dos_sandbox folder.
Step 2) Run this in your terminal: bchunk ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_ISO/Fast_Attack.img ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_ISO/Fast_Attack.cue ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_ISO/out01.iso
3) Run this in terminal:
hdiutil attach ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_ISO/out01.iso01.iso
This extracts and mounts the missing ANIM folder (and smack files contained therein).
4) Copy that folder to the v1.01 folder:
cp -r /Volumes/FAST_ATTACK/ANIM ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_v101
5) copy FAST.INI into ROOT folder in v1.01 folder:
cp ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_v101/FAST.INI ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_v101/ROOT/
6) Using whatever text editor you prefer (i.e vim/nano whatever) change ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_v101/ROOT/FAST.INI such that the top looks like this:
MOVIE = OFF
CREDITS = ON
ANIMATIONS = ON
CDMUSIC = ON
EXPLOSION_SFX = ON
SOUND_EFFECTS = ON
SPEECH = ON
DELAYVGA = OFF
MIDIMUSIC = ON
DIFF_LEVEL = STD
SMK_PATH = c:\ANIM
FATBIN_PATH = c:\MISSION\
MISSION_PATH = c:\MISSION\
TEXT_PATH = c:\TEXT\
SAVEGAME = c:\SAVEGAME\
CD_ROOT = c:\
[DRIVERS]
AUD_DRV = c:\AUD_DRV\
This is pointing to all the correct directories.
7) Now go into dos sandbox and mount everything:
mount c ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_v101
mount e ~/dos_sandbox/Fast_Attack/Fast_Attack_ISO
imgmount d e:\FAST_A~1.CUE -t iso
8) navigate to c:
9) cd to ROOT directory
10) execute FAST.EXE
11) Test on loading a torpedo
12) Relive childhood.
I'll check back here every couple months or whenever I remember to. Let me know if it doesn't work.
Cheers,
-J

Just use Sierra Installation Help with the iso and you will get a flawless running version on any new OS.

The 1.01RIP is not 1.01 actually, it just has 1.01 executable, which is not being called. Because the executable which is being called is in .\ROOT\ folder and it's 1.0

Download the ISO image, create an install of Windows 3.1 on dosbox, mount the ISO, install the game from Windows, play

Used to have this game when it first came out. Want to play it again so downloaded it. However, every time I try to run it in DOSBox I get the message that the CD needs too be loaded in the drive to run. Still trying to figure out how to run without the CD as all the components are available in the download. Is there a work around?

Finally found a working version after two years. Thank God.

These very bizarre and random malfunctions are somewhat humorous in nature I admit but seriously I don't want it to run like this.

The game runs but it runs so slow the crew members' speech is slurred. When I was installing it and tested the Midis the Midis played slow too. I'm running this in an emulation of Windows XP but this is an MS-DOS application; it shouldn't be this hard to run. I also seem to have this weird problem on the title screen and everywhere else in the game where my cursor is doing this weird thing where each time I put it on an option it seems to leave a "footprint" of itself behind on whatever I hover the mouse over, and for some reason it stays there, to the point where if I hove my mouse over all the different buttons then each of them will have the "essence" of the mouse cursor left behind on it permanently. What the crap is going on?
