How to play Fritz 9: Play Chess Windows
The game should work fine on modern systems, tested on Windows 10. If the installation doesn't start - run Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old Windows OS and as administrator. If the installed game doesn't start - run it in compatibility mode with old Windows OS, like Windows XP
Notes:
- It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- At the first start the launcher of the game will ask to enter the serial key, enter

If the launcher says that the serial key is not valid - simply click on "Cancel" and start the game, that serial key is required only for multiplayer game - The archive with extra engines includes several old commercial chess engines: Fish (aka Rybka) v2.32 and v3, ChessMaster, ChessTiger, DeepFritz10, DeepJunior10, DeepShredder11, HiarchX54, Toga2. To install new engine, click on "Engine" -> "Create ICU engine..." and browse the file. Some extra engines are presented in .eng format, you will need to use extra apps like Stockfish to install it
- There was no release of Deep Fritz 9, the last "Deep" version before Deep Fritz 10 was DeepFritz 8.1.4.0, according to this thread
- Your antivirus may trigger on "pirated" Russian CD because of Autorun, it showed many generic warnings. But all installation files on that disc are clear, so just ignore the Autorun, it is safe to use
